Scaredy Cut combs come in #1,#2,#3, #4, #5, #6 sizes. |
Although I always encourage my customers to get a puppy use to the motor of the Grooming Clipper at an early age. It may be better to let the young puppy hear the noise of the tool and feel the vibrations without actually cutting the fur. Because initially they will be very squirmy for grooming.
You will have a much easier time getting the puppy to stand still using the Scaredy cut. And for the early trims most people want to leave a longer length on their puppies. The Scaredy Cut Grooming Scissors are perfect for longer length cuts. The Scissor comes with 7 easily detachable combs. The large array of sizes means you can cut a close 1/4" length (great for the back) all the way up to a full 1" length (great for fluffy legs)
You will also need to buy a pair of Ball Scissors for trimming around eyes and eyebrows. The blunt nosed ends make it much safer than regular sharp nosed scissors. (These scissors can also be purchased from Our Shop link above)
The Scaredy cut package comes with the easy to follow directions below:
Of course when you have multiple dogs like I have, the Scaredy Cut isn't fast enough for every part of the grooming process. I use the Andis Clipper for the closer trimmed parts of the body (#10 blade for head and ears. #4FC for the back). And the Scaredy Cut works well for me on the furnishings. A #6 comb on the Scaredy cut leaves a perfect 1" length for Schnauzer legs.
During the winter I like to leave the dogs fur longer than usual. So at Christmas I used my Scaredycut to trim Coco and Misty. In the photo below, I used the shortest Scaredy cut comb on Coco's back, and the longest comb on her legs and sides. There were a few mats in her back legs that had to be cut out....it left a bit of a hole. But that was my fault f or not brushing her legs regularly. As you can see Coco looks pretty even throughout her cut.
In winter, it's nice to leave a longer coat on dogs. |
Best of all, the dogs don't mind being groomed with the Scaredy Cut. There is no noise except the occasional snip of the scissor. Anyone can use it and the dogs hardly know they are being trimmed. It is a relaxing experience for the dog, and stress-free experience for the owner.
There are a few draw backs with the Scaredy Cut clipper. Your fingers will get tired if you use it on the whole body. If that is the case, it is easy enough to do the back in one sitting, the legs in another. Also it is much slower than using an electric tool. The cut is not as smooth. Finally these are not super high quality hair cutting scissors. With all the fur cutting they will eventually get dull.
I highly recommend the Scaredy cut for a young puppy, a novice groomer, or for trimming in between trips to the groomer.. I find it a very useful tool especially for young puppies. It is, however, no replacement for an electric grooming tool in the long run. Over the long run, you will want to use an electric trimmer for your dog. It is soooo much faster to groom and leaves a much smoother cut. Plus your fingers will thank you!
It's my pleasure to find this site the idea you share is more useful for me to improve my dog grooming business.
