Schnoodles Puppies coming early March!

Dugan is a 9 lb Toy Poodle.  He looks just like this red poodle.

This year's litter will be Schnoodle puppies. Today, I took Dixie, our ACA Registered Mini Schnauzer to Waterford Kennels where I bred her to an AKC registered Toy Poodle.  The poodles name is Peter.  He is a gorgeous red color and 9 lbs.

The resulting litter will be ICA Registered Schnoodle Puppies (International Canine Association).  The ICA is the breed registry for all Hybrid bred dogs.  The Schnoodle is considered a Hybrid breed, also popularly called a 'Designer Breed'.

I decided to breed Dixie this month so that she will have early Spring puppies, rather than waiting 6 mths for Winter puppies.  This is the first time I have not skipped a cycle in breeding, but all was well with her last birth, she is in good health, she is still young and the timing would be better for the puppies this time around.  I chose to breed Schnoodles because they are great family dogs, good for allergies and in high demand  in the current market.

Dixie's visit to the Farm

Hey Folks, Here's the latest! 

Dixie  and I took a drive to Luray, VA to visit Toby the stud.   It was a long 2 hr drive, and we got stuck behind a line painting truck!  But it was a gorgeous peaceful day, and there is no better place to be than driving through the Shenandoah Mountains on such a day as this!  Dixie, seemed to know we were taking her away for a few days.  She did not look thrilled!

Toby lives on a beautiful farm with many other dogs, horses and chickens.

along with a Great Dane, English Bulldog, and several Mini Schnauzers....

But this is the little fellow you really want to see.  This is Toby.  Isn't he a beauty.  He has a really gorgeous coat.  You call this color silver.

Its been a bit muddy on the farm, so Toby's furnishings are a bit yellowed, but rest assured, they are naturally white!

Toby was the most beautiful of all the Mini Schnauzers at the farm.  He will produce some beautiful puppies.

As I mentioned before, he has a lot of white in his genetic background...so we could see a lot of white in this litter with Dixie...but there is no telling.  I do hope we get at least one silver puppy that looks just like Toby.

I should also mention that one of my customers on the waiting list has specified that she would like a non-white Schnauzer .... so if we only get one colored Schnauzer, I will give Bronny first dibs.

So at the moment I am back at home, and Dixie will stay on the  farm until Sunday.  The male Schnauzers are kept in a kennel and only bred under supervision, so there is no ambiguity as to who the father is, or whether the breeding took place.  Lynn has been breeding dogs for 20 years so she is very experienced and will take good care of Dixie.  Now let's hope Dixie and Toby get along really well!

About the Stud for our Litter

While we are still waiting on Dixie...I thought it would be of interest to tell you that after a lot of research and interviews, I have settled on the Stud dog for this litter.  His name is Toby and he is a small Schnauzer (under 20lbs).  He is AKC registered. His coat is a very light silver color, with white markings.  His owner has been breeding Schnauzers for 20 years, and knows Toby's lineage for several generations.  He has a lot of white in his lineage.   He has fathered many litters and often throws white puppies.  When bred with white females the result has been all white litters.  Nonetheless,  I should note that other colors are still a possibility!  But most importantly, Toby has a lovely disposition, a gorgeous coat and has every desirable trait to make a great match for Dixie!

It is worth noting at this time, that although the father is AKC registered, since Dixie is ACA registered, the resulting litter will have papers to be ACA registered.

I have talked with Toby's owner and all the arrangements are in place so that when Dixie is ready, the breeder will be ready for Dixie's visit.  I have also lined up some summer help to be here with the pups when I cannot.  So I have done my part, and we are ready to breed Dixie even if she waits until the end of April to go into heat.
