A sample X-ray of puppies at 51 days gestation (this is NOT Dixie's litter) |
Yesterday, my daughter came running up the stairs, out of breathe and full of excitement. "Mom, is it too early to feel the puppies kicking!" she said. Not wanting to ruin the moment, I made a good guess, "Well, no I don't think it's too early." "Oh!" she exclaimed as she ran out of the room, "then that's what I'm feeling in Dixie's belly!" So I looked it up real quickly, and sure enough, this is the time when we start feeling puppy movement. Later that day Dixie curled up next to me on the couch. I put my hand on her side and felt a very distinctive bump on her side....I thought, "Is that a rib?" But then it moved back in....I guess it was a puppy!
Week 8 (Days 50-57): Puppies are developed enough now that they can be safely delivered. Fetal movement may be detected and milk may be squeezed from the nipples.
